Set up a new SSD or hard drive
Try these steps in order. Stop if a step does not apply to your device or could risk important data.
- Install the drive and connect its cables, or insert the M.2 drive.
- On Windows, open Disk Management.
- Initialize the drive; use GPT for most modern PCs.
- Create a New Simple Volume.
- Assign a drive letter and format as NTFS.
More help: Select the correct new empty drive. Formatting the wrong drive can erase data.
Back up important files before repairs that may affect storage or system settings.
