RAM problems or upgrade

Try these steps in order. Stop if a step does not apply to your device or could risk important data.

  1. Shut down and unplug the PC.
  2. Touch bare metal on the case before touching RAM.
  3. Reseat each stick until the clips lock.
  4. For two matching sticks, use the recommended paired slots, commonly 2 and 4.
  5. Test one stick at a time if the PC will not boot.
  6. Run Windows Memory Diagnostic if crashes continue.
More help: Mixed RAM can work, but it may run slower or be less stable.

Back up important files before repairs that may affect storage or system settings.
