macOS won’t update

Try these steps in order. Stop if a step does not apply to your device or could risk important data.

  1. Restart the Mac and try again.
  2. Make sure the Mac has enough free storage.
  3. Use a stable Wi-Fi connection and connect the charger.
  4. Open System Settings > General > Software Update.
  5. Try Safe Mode if the update repeatedly fails.
